Suzuki Institutes:

Suzuki Institutes exist all over the United States and Canada.  If you’ve been thinking of traveling to a new place, this might be a good excuse!  You can match up an Institute to fit into your summer plans by searching by date or location on the Suzuki website.  I HIGHLY recommend these institutes to all of my students- they are incredibly motivational and the feedback from top workshop clinicians is indispensable!  Here are a few in the northeast US:

Enrollment: 220 (Note: often filled by April)
Campers study a wide variety of styles ranging from classical to contemporary, spending the majority of their time rehearsing and performing in ensembles that range from rock bands, string ensembles, choruses, jazz combos and chamber groups to larger ensembles including the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Choir and Orchestra.  Individual lessons, independent practice time and studio classes round out the program of study.  Programs culminate in performances and exhibitions for an enthusiastic community.

Coed, ages 10-17, with music experience -Deadline: May 2007, flexible program includes an intense musical experience combined with recreational activities, and environmental and nature studies in a forest setting.  This program is administered by the Preparatory Center of the Arts of Montclair State University in association with the New Jersey School of Conservation.

Spring School Summer Violin Camp

An innovative camp for ages 3-14, featuring mini-musicals based on different composers. Campers choose music to perform, act, and make costumes and scenery. Other activities include daily yoga, note reading classes, conducting classes, Suzuki repetoire classes, fiddling and alternative styles, and arts and crafts. Older students have string quartets in the afternoon. Each week ends with a performance of the mini-musical for that session. Air conditioned campus.
Three sessions, 9am to 3pm each day
June 18-22: Bach, June 25-29: Beethoven, July 2-6 : Tchaikovsky
